An impressive state library

This new University and State Library is the central library of the Technical University of Darmstadt. Having outgrown its old premises, the new building is an impressive piece of architecture in the centre of Darmstadt. It is used by the university and educational and research institutions in the region for research, teaching and studying. As a public scientific library, it also provides the population of South Hessen, the local authorities and cultural institutions with literature.

Overall, an estimated 1.8 million books, 2,000 printed and 20,000 online magazines and a variety of databases and special collections are made available to the public around the clock. The impressive interior of the building offers 700 study places and a total of 28 km of running shelving installed over 8 storeys.

Since the opening the number of visitors has already increased threefold.
